Passivhaus - Saco, Maine

Our clients share our passion for ultra energy efficiency and wanted to design an age-in-place, highly durable, Net Zero Energy home that incorporated the latest techniques in building science while having the appearance of a very nice, contextually appropriate home. We're very excited about this home and Its levels of achievement. --To be a passivhaus (or passive house) a home must have the following: an infiltration rate no greater than 0.60 AC/H @ 50 Pascals, a maximum annual heating energy use of 15 kWh per square meter (4,755 Btu per square foot), a maximum annual cooling energy use of 15 kWh per square meter (1.39 kWh per square foot), and a maximum source energy use for all purposes of 120 kWh per square meter (11.1 kWh per square foot). This essentially means that the home could be heated in the dead of winter with a hairdryer. We're happy to report that Edgewaterhaus meets these goals and is on track to produce more energy than it consumes.
