Harmony House - Opus II

Freeport, Maine

We are very proud to be able to say that this is the first home in New England to receive a LEED Gold Certification from the USGBC.

Building on the success of the original Harmony House, this four-bedroom version was built in the same manner, using a passive solar design based on low toxicity and energy / resource efficiency. However, unlike its predecessor, this home features a ground source heat pump system. The end result is a combustion-free house whose total energy bill (from June 07 to June 08) was just over a thousand dollars. The home boasts a low air infiltration rate of 1.1 air changes per hour at 50 pascals (ACH50). This home also features balloon framed walls and horizontal strapping to greatly reduce thermal bridging. It also features ICF foundations, low toxin materials, locally sourced materials, high efficiency plumbing and electrical fixtures, and an ERV to efficiently ensure a constant supply of fresh air.
