Do you do your own energy modeling?

Last Updated: February 1, 2021

Yes, we energy model almost all of our projects. Most architects don’t provide this service. Most that do, use outside engineers to measure the predictive energy consumption and performance of their designs, and usually only when requested by a particular client. At BRIBURN we have the software (WUFI), the know-how, and the experience to have energy modeling as part of the basic services and workflow of our projects. It allows us to help our clients make their own cost-benefit analysis of the efficiency measures we recommend. For example, is it worth rotating the building 15 degrees to improve the views from the living room? Is the cost to upgrade the windows from double pane to triple pane worth the savings and comfort gains? Our friend’s builder says that the extra layer of insulation is unnecessary, what do we gain by having it? How much solar will we need to be net zero?

All of these questions and many more can be answered with the data that comes from the model which is constantly being updated as the project progresses. As our client, these decisions become yours to make with the data and guidance that we provide.
